Curious as a bit of film history, less so as a viewing experience. Somewhat a documentary, but a very staged one, teetering fairly close to some precursor of the neorealist movement. It's certainly well-made, naturalistic to a degree, and very matter of fact. But it still feels very much at a distance from the subjects we're supposed to observe.

Historically significant, but hardly a watchable film from an entertainment perspective. 

Jennings seems very fascinated by the technical aspects of fighting fires, and while we get to see the firefighters in their off time, there isn’t much time spent to develop individual characters.

All that being said, seeing how these operations worked before computers is quite interesting. Lots of chalkboards and phone calls were necessary to coordinate water supply.

Propaganda filmmaking takes many forms, and this is a noble way to celebrate some of Britain’s less seen heroes.

Theres an inane British character to the film, which i imagine is a propaganda must have for the british brand of patriotism. The action is often sudden and unexpected which describes the perils well. Really improved as it went along.
