of course, play it as it lays is not autobiographical, but it goes without saying that much of joan didion’s views on life, womanhood, hollywood, and marriage etc. are all imbued deeply within maria. i would say that this film is the best (and most accurate) cinematic depiction of joan didion that the world is ever gonna get. so if you ever see a biopic being made,,, remember me!!
