Probably my low expectations helped my like this wonky gritty Star Wars ripoff more than expected. And it even was the PG-13 cut, still need to check the “Snydercut”. A bajillion times more visually appealing than anything that is coming out of The Mandalorian and Grogu. Characters are basically archetypes, needed more of the robot + girl and way less of fucking Gunnam. Cliches ensue, even more explicitly influenced by Seven Samurai than Star Wars itself. I wonder how creative Snyder actually is, because he crafts some crazily good visual concepts, but when it comes to making a story out of them, it is reaaaally hit or miss. Action is mostly pretty good, but there are some scenes that look so awkward having the blood cut out. And also, there was a whole buildup for a sex scene that never came (no pun intended). Still, for my clear disinterest in this movie (another one collecting dust amongst my downloads) I was relatively surprised. Might even check out Part II later on

Star Wars but Zack Snyder puts his edgy spin on it making multiple rape jokes and having soldiers and aliens attempt to sexual assault multiple people. Then on top of that the action scenes which are very mediocre have very awkward and unnecessary slow mo. Another big issue is the characters. Nearly everyone in this ragtag group of people is either unlikable, underdeveloped, or just hollow. It’s hard to get invested when you don’t care about anyone on screen, and the film never gives you a reason to. Everything cool that has happened to these characters has happened in the past which we learn through 50 exposition dumps. It’s also hard to get invested when the main character has so much plot armor you know for a fact she won’t die. Literally every scene she’s in you could have 10 guys with guns pointed directly to her skull and she would shoot one of them then they’d all forget how to use their guns it’s ridiculous. That said, it’s not all bad. The visuals are undeniably impressive the CGI and cinematography are genuinely masterful at times but the color grading sucks.
