this is a backwoods slasher inspired by the texas chainsaw massacre films, so i knew i would enjoy it.
‘slaughterhouse’ was clearly influenced by tcm, but one thing i like about this film is while it takes inspiration, it still alters the plot a fair amount so it doesn’t just see that a complete copy. i actually really like the concept behind this film. an old school farmer is pushed out of business due to the increase of corporate slaughter houses, and he gets paid very little for his old slaughterhouse, and he has to be vacant within a month. his mentally disabled son kills two teenagers from a random camper van, his father realises he get exploit his son to kill those who threaten his slaughterhouse, and so his son goes on a killing spree, this film is very much of its time, and that’s evident by its soundtrack and the clear decline in quality from prior years. the characters aren’t really great.. the villains were probably the ones i was rooting for as the teenagers are quite stereotypical/generic. there’s also a scene at the end which reminds me of tcm - where they both torture linda. this film kinda ends on a cliffhanger as the last thing we hear is a blood curdling scream. it’s just nice watching a maniac butcher a bunch of people, and i really enjoy the concept. the actual product was a little disappointing, but this is just a sleazy late 80s slasher which every horror fan should watch once, but maybe not twice.

TCM, but remove all the tension and switch it with dumbness.
Slaughterhouse is a fairly good late-80s slasher flick. There's an old slaughterhouse, a fat, disgusting pig-man killer, an old lunatic, dumb kids, and lots of pigs. Add some gruesome kills here and there, and you have the recipe for your average TCM slasher rip-off.
There's plenty of dumb fun to be had. The main cast consists of a bunch of kids who just want to have some fun, and they do exactly that throughout the movie. The killer is extremely nasty, and combined with the slaughterhouse setting, makes for a very good slasher atmosphere. Some of the kills are pretty good, and you get a healthy amount of gore to spice things up.
Overall, I wouldn't call it an essential 80s slasher, but it's definitely worth checking out for genre fans.
