so tender, earnest, and full of layers underneath its hilarious and hopeful exterior. i loved the way china was filmed here, with massive landscape constantly enveloping the characters and giving the vibe of them embarking on an epic journey.
the search for meaning, purpose and all these other grand things continue to be asked and explored, and journey to the west’s attempt to grapple those questions leads to a touching, empathetic story.

i giggled and then i cried so much i got a tummy ache “i could only turn around, but when i turned around i saw the outline of the entire universe, and at the time that outline made me feel like i figured out the answer”
