Sezim is ready to go to college in the city, but she has no allies, no friends, and a family that has no idea why she'd want to modernize herself. Then, suddenly, she gets kidnapped by strangers into a forced marriage in the middle of nowhere.
I hesitate to say this story is misery-porny and heavy-handed, because I don't know a lot of the customs at play here, but most of the film is just an endless array of dehumanizing indignities inflicted by otherwise decent-seeming people, to the point where you never know whether or not it'll ever turn around for her. Which, I suppose, is the actual point.
The main actor (Alina Turdumamatova) is really good, though, and it is very well shot.

This movie provoked a strong reaction from me. Never have I wanted to murder so many characters so badly. I feel a bit uneducated but I did not realize that kidnap brides were a thing, and I am glad that we spent a fair bit of time with our protagonist before the kidnapping because we have a real sense of her. Well acted, well executed, and educating me on a part of the world I was very unfamiliar with, I wouldn't say that I enjoyed this film but I was engaged the entire time.
