Hanakosan, imasu ka?I'm so happy we got back to the pure paranormal stuff, in a ... Lovecraftian way.
First Hanako's video in the Bathroom school was frightening, made you feel every
change in the atmosphere, the unexpected
sound of water before the
final jumpscare. Even if the effect of the
ghost coming out of the toiled looked kinda cheesy, the whole
scene-building made this jumpscare
definitely effectiveThe
second video, with the
apparent teleportation from Nana's house to Eri's (
and the premonition of neck-hanged Eri) made the events
become surreal. I felt the whole fear and danger through the 2 girls,
whose friendship, both
wholesome and
toxic, was magnificantly
built and explained through Nana's regret and sadness.
But the
surreal stuff was still to happen:
A
school connected to the world on the other side, where space bends and timelines collide, revealing a scarier scenario.Since that specific exploration, the movie turns into a
time travel puzzle, where two goals interlink:
-
Saving Eri before her death happens
-
Keeping the timeline safe without interfering with the "
canon" events
( I can totally see where Tatsuki Fujimoto took inspiration for Chainsaw Man's Eternity Devil )**Hanako's lovecraftian form was the cherry on top.
We even got to witness some footage of the 2Dimensional
other side through her tentacles**.
**Eri's final slap clearly made Kudo proud... right before the "Final Destination ahh" plot twist
