A pretty flat / messy ‘80s teen sex comedy’, I watched because I saw Sean baker say this had a more female gaze compared to other similar movies at the time. That’s about the best thing about this for real, wanted to like it more, I love silly shit. Had a couple moments. Not sure why this is my first Martha Coolidge watch, need to see what’s up with valley girl.

It’s honestly refreshing to see a teen sex comedy aimed at women that still tries to be as raunchy even if it meanders away too much from its female lead. The individual beats of the film feel like they’re piecemealed from anonymous teen advice columns. The kinkiness of the film is shown throughout and does showcase women as being as preoccupied with sex as men are, although the more rambunctious nature of the prowl is reserved for the more masculine or the desperately masculine
