a totally fun and rambunctious flawed martial arts film that has weakly executed dramatic plot points. but you can’t argue with its entertainment value. despite being executed poorly, it’s successful in creating an environment that keeps the audience glued to the screen with its cheesiness. although this film is considered a blaxploitation, i wouldn’t call it such since it only vaguely deals with the residential segregation and the main character is a white dude so, no.
with its surprisingly decent choreographed fight scenes, there’s a nice core to this film that handles the issue that’s the poor treatment of urban neighborhoods by capitalists. as well as the abuse on the financially vulnerable caused by the financially powerful, whether it’s the raised prices of groceries and rent, provoked violence or substance abuse. it all comes full circle and the “lower” people are blamed and accounted for.
it becomes a revenge story caused by greedy wealth and filth. but even on the surface, this film is extremely enjoyable with hilarious depictions of the hong kong film influence on low budget american cinema.
