honestly… this movie had SO much potential. endless potential. the score is beautiful, the aesthetic, the color grading, the cinematography… all of that is amazing.
in concept this is a great movie, but the dialogue is so blocky and artificial. it could be a directorial choice to convey awkwardness and disassociation for the teenagers, but it just didn’t land that way for me.
this is opinionated, but the style of it, the cheesy and tacky presentation of the pink opaque, didn’t completely land for me. it is good in the context of it being a low budget 90s show, but when it bleeds into reality, i see it as tacky. that could easily be just me, but that’s just how i see it from my eyes.
this movie is definitely amazing for the people that it fits. but to me, i can’t resonate with it. i saw potential when this first came out, i watched it, and i somewhat liked it. i prioritized the aesthetic more, which is why it was rated higher. now i see the lack of structure, the dialogue, and i can’t get past it.
again, alex g and his score in this movie is beautiful and perfect. it sets the mood proficiently. the color grading and general cinematography is amazing. outside of that, there isn’t much to me.
