The Tale of Genji
The fuckboy with daddy issues blueprint.

Read the novel, watched the film, still confused.
Everyone looks so similar, so that doesn’t help.

The Tale of Genji
as the day turns to night; as the summer turns to autumn; as a flame burns bright and then dies... emotional liminality and the wavering impermanence of the self are presented here in a stunningly animated format, with a particularly gorgeous use of imagery and, even with a lack of much expressiveness, an ability to capture feeling. i have yet to read the novel from which this takes much of its material, but as a work in and of itself, i have to say that i very much did enjoy this. the natural being representative of the transience of life is nowhere but in perhaps donne's the blossom presented in such a bittersweet way, towing the line of pulchritudinous and horrific. speaking of donne, THIS MF MAN IS A WHORE OMFG?? only REAL negative, ignoring little things, is the excessive silence/instrumental parts, which were just too long and too abundant imo, though some were warranted and lovely inclusions to break up the narrative and construct some of the more metaphysical and abstract sections.
