it might be because showgirls (1995) is the last movie i watched from start to finish, but the main character here reminds me of the one in showgirls. there's this juxtaposition of the way both main characters are presented as strong independent woman while they aren't even mature enough to make smart decisions. only in showgirls, since it's fictional, the main character is always saved by the narrative despite making so many dumb actions and instead she always gets what she wants. yazmin on the other hand, since her story is based on real life events, doesn't have the same grace.
