Fucking disappointing, Bad Girls Goes To Hell is one of my all time favorites I will admit and Doris Wishman as a women filmmaker of course is very important for her prolific career however Let Me Die Like a Woman is a complete nauseating nightmare. Warning am going to ramble, I cannot devote more of my time to this then necessary, i wanna express my sheer anger and not more then that for i can’t bring myself to think any more about this, so feel free if you wish to read Sally Jane Black‘s review for a more detailed and complete and actually educational outline of why this is so wrong. You should probably read that then watch this in all honesty, for 70 minutes it is basically unbearable if you have any ounce of decency or respect for other people. For me this is hell.
Second wave feminism and transmedicalism’s regards to transgender people is all over this, no this is not an empathetic or constructive film, it is a deeply pitying and patronizing film filled with horrifying overdramatic music meant to denote how bizarre and fucked up we are both as a human and as a sexual being, constant misgendering to denounce when someone is actually now their gender, taking their stories and framing it not as a sample of how prejudiced the system is but rather that we are being selfish and foolish for being who we are (look what they are doing to themselves socially and financially by dressing up like this!), gruesome fictional and real surgery and self harm that while it’s important for cis people to actually see what we have to go through to meet our needs the lens this is seen in is beyond repulsive, securing cis binary views always, clinging to the cis audience’s assured sense of being and telling them to compare it to these confused individuals! it is simply dehumanizing and stupid.
