Something so fucked up about Israeli society. When your government has a system where citizens aren’t equal based, on well, anything, but here specifically ethnicity and religious beliefs, (apartheid), you should know something’s off. But somehow, through repeated propaganda and then popular sentiment, people start believing this dehumanizing nonsense. You look at a human treating another human, the exact same species, like some subhuman piece of filth and you can’t comprehend it, it doesn’t register as anything other than insane. Because to you, if you aren’t pre conditioned into some sort of exclusionary thinking, every human has the same worth, they’re like you and from this perspective you empathize. A loss of empathy is a loss of your humanity, something is fundamentally altered in your brain. Drugs can do this, trauma can do this and most importantly conditioning can do this. So to see Israelis treat Palestinians, which they refer to as Arabs, as like animals, in this documentary but also in everything we see, obviously alarms us. All this to say, how can you convince a population which views their so called enemies as animals. Animals which, supposedly, by nature want all Jews dead. Furthermore, this hate only fuels more hate and in some cases becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. If you murder someone’s family, of course they’re going to want to get revenge and this goes on indefinitely. Convincing either side (not both siding the problematic, Israel is the biggest force at play here, there is no both sides in a genocide) to somehow coexist in a singular state is an effort that seems impossible. Mass re education is needed, socializing between the 2 populations, new governance, as little to no foreign intervention. All this to get empathy back.
I sometimes wonder how in the actual fuck this interminable, infinite, genocidal conflict that was artificially created could be solved. Fact is Israel and by consequence the United States holds all the cards. If they want a lasting peace, they can get it. I’m 100% certain they know a singular state and mass re education or something similar would take time, but most likely work. Unfortunately, as you come to see if you go through its history, the United States does not care about resolving conflicts in the most meaningful way possible. They are not the arbiter of good. Unfortunately.
