For some weird reason I had Mandela effected myself into believing this movie features Nic Cage as a pretentious high end art dealer.
I’m not sure what that movie was (if any), but it sure ain’t this. Here Cage is a retiree with a mysterious past, spending his days in the Cayman Islands, albeit in less that luxurious conditions, whose life is disrupted when estranged daughter Ashley (Ashley Greene) sends granddaughter Sarah (Thalia Campbell) along with a hidden Hard drive of criminal secrets, giving crime boss Donnie (Jackie Earle Hayley) a one way ticket to melt down town.
This also features Ernie Hudson as Cage’s old pal, Ron Perlman as an Othello quoting goon and Adios Turd Nuggets as a government stiff.
I like the greying long hair look on Cage, kind of an aging gracefully Cameron Poe vibe. The caymans locale is fun, the move back to Miami for the finale felt like a stretch too far run time wise.
An extra star for the Flare Gun to the face.
