Actual reality, not reality TV, so it feels strangely uncanny. A marriage under glass, every flaw exposed. Fascinating and deeply uncomfortable, The suburban horror of 1970s North America under a microscope. You want to look away, but you cannot.

A huge part of this type of documentary being any kind of successful, and what I would find the most difficult, is finding subjects that would be this comfortable being so revealing and transparent to a camera. I’m certain a lot of that has to do with Allan King and his process, profoundly interesting.
