I had my doubts at first but I ended up enjoying Eaten Alive! quite a bit.
The gore and violence are very well done but they often feel somewhat purposeless. While the kills are graphic and disturbing, they don’t serve much beyond shock value. This happens because the plot is honestly not very strong. The cult angle and the ideas it attempts to explore do lend some personality, but that’s about as deep as the movie gets. As a result, the gore is never really used in meaningful manner other than shocking the audience. This doesn't necessarily mean the movie sucks though, because it doesn't, it just means that it doesn't achieve what something like Cannibal Holocaust was able to, using disturbing imagery to get it's message across.
For all it's flaws, Eaten Alive! surely is entertaining and very well shot. The jungle setting is used very effectively as it feels both beautiful and intimidating at all times.
