in daughter of the dragon, the astounding anna may wong's ling moy assumes the role of "mandaughter" in order to enact the revenge of her father, fu manchu.
my first anna may wong and my first experience of fu manchu outside of jokes and cultural references – and it was lovely. lively. of course it deserves its place in my on: radical feminism list for it's depiction of ling moy as half a person, needing to declare herself her father's son in order to be taken seriously or trusted with such a task.
i enjoyed this, and the cast of characters, though it was somewhat bland at times. but, much like with marlene dietrich or angelina jolie or any other true star, there is a clear standout – anna may wong. daughter of the dragon is made brilliant simply by the presence of anna may wong. such a talent. such a beauty.
