“We come from the land of the olive tree, the moon, and the rainbow.”
happy weekend guys!! well, there’s something so delicate yet devastating about this movie. it doesn’t scream its emotions, but it lets them bloom quietly, like the summer heat that feels gentle at first then suddenly unbearable...
it started from Italy during the final days of World War II, the film follows Carlo (played by
Jean-Louis Trintignant), the son of a fascist official, and Roberta (played by
Eleonora Rossi Drago), a widowed woman who’s still grieving her husband’s death. and they meet in the middle of political chaos and they find a strange kind of tenderness, kinda love that feels doomed from the start but too beautiful to resist 🥀
Valerio Zurlini directs with such restraint, well his camera doesn’t chase the drama, it lingers on faces, silences, and the quiet ache between two people trying to hold on to something fleeting. Trintignant’s acting is soft and almost hesitant, as if he knows every word he says could be the last before the world around him collapses. and Drago’s acting she’s heartbreaking. she’s strong yet fragile like someone who has already seen too much of life’s cruelty
it’s not just about romance, but it’s about time, loss, and the quiet terror of knowing that love, no matter how pure, can’t always survive reality. this movie doesn’t just leave you sad but it also leaves you thoughtful. for me, it’s one of those love stories that burn softly but leave a scar ❤️🩹
(p.s. i have a great pfp from trintignant from this movie, love it sm!)
