I read the “comic” years ago as a kid and watching the movie now, with more historical context and with Israeli forces moving into southern Lebanon again, it truly shows how horrific and devastating war can be, but also how these tragedies want to be forgotten and repressed. By reconnecting with his old army friends trying to puzzle the pieces of his memories together, Folman creates an animated masterpiece moving back and forth in time trying to deal with the experiences of the war, sometimes not believing what one was capable of doing or not doing with respect to the massacre…
