I’m kinda disappointed by this movie. It had a good cast and black leads, but unfortunately it all fell flat. For starters this movie was wayyy too long, should’ve been 90 mins tops. The comedy was actually really good and a big reason for the rating, but sometimes this movie got so boring I’d go on my phone for 15-20 mins, look up and we still are in the same place story wise. I’m never gonna talk bad on black projects that’s just not my prerogative, however it is hard to ignore some of the glaring missteps when it come to Johnny Black. Namely the whole white people as Native Americans and the weird stereotypes, I tried to chalk it up to a comedic spoof sort of choice, but it wasn’t funny and added nothing to this and just made me question why. The biggest issue with this is the lack of action, they gave us nothing between the first fight scene and the last…nothing for two hours. That’s a crime. If you are looking for a great Black Western just go watch The Harder They Fall for the first time, or if you’re like me go the hundredth.
