I honestly really like this film, josh o’connor is obviously a win when going into a queer film, and paul mescal after all of us are strangers is pretty peak.
I love the storyline and the characters, the end had me bawling tho highkey cause what do you mean he thought about him and loved him for 60 years and got no closure, my baby.
For all its poise, the film sometimes errs on the side of “too quiet” You feel a longing for more visceral urgency or risk, however, not every single queer film has to be visually exciting, and i think the calm and not super loud approach really echoed david’s life.
but i have to say i LOVED the scene when lionel is at his grandfathers funeral and he starts dancing round the fire, the strings in this scene and the whole movie were used so well, and i also loved the end, it was so devastatingly beautiful, you could feel the pain of lionel, and his forever longing for david, and when he finally hears his voice, you can see the bittersweet confliction he feels, it was heartbreaking to watch and i loved it.
josh o’connor you are my favourite white boy in queer cinema right now ily.
