I did enjoy this film, though it left me somewhat disappointed at the end. I reckon it’s down to me wanting more - like it was almost great but couldn’t quite hit the mark.

Dafoe was great in it and I loved the fact that they used animatronics for the Ochi. I loved the whole vibe of this film, from the shooting locations down to the grainy look from the cameras. It was just that the story could have been more compelling? I’m still not quite sure.

Overall I do recommend it for a night at home but if you’re like me then you have a long list of movies anyway!

apparently I had to choose between subtitles that let me be able to understand anything any of the characters were saying or subtitles that let me understand the weird little creature screams 

apart from that it had some beautiful landscape shots but didn’t really contain anything of real substance

Watched it for Finn Wolfhard but apparently he only has like 5 lines and all he does is just stand there and serve face. I guess it worked because I was swooning everytime he was on screen #shameless
 But despite Finn Wolfhard's beautiful face, (again, I am being shameless idc) the movie failed to entertain me.. 
It is predictable, dark for no reason. Could have been a little brighter. Oh and it's dragged out which doesn't really make matters any better. Maybe it could have worked better as an animated film?... 
am i missing something? Do i lack whimsy? Is this a me problem?

OKAY, now im gonna list all the things i loved. 
1. Finn Freaking Wolfhard 
2. Finn Wolfhard riding a horse
3. Willem Dafoe
4. Willem Dafoe in full armor that looks like a cheap cosplay, ready to fight this tiny ass creature that resembles a red panda. Unserious but funny. Made me smile. 
5. The scenery
6. Set design 
7. Cinematography 

That's pretty much it. The movie is carried by the actors. (Willem Dafoe, Finn wolfhard, Emily Watson) and the scenery they keep showing down our throats throughout the whole movie because it has nothing else going on for itself. That creature is so ugly im sorry and i'm bored bored bored bored

I don't even have it in me to write a full proper review for this honestly. I thought i was about to see how to train your dragon but for older kids then it turned into... District 9 mixed with Where the wild things are. I liked the performances, and the premise. My main issue is just... nothing happens really. It's a very bland movie. Willem Dafoe is trying his damn hardest to save it, but there's really nothing going on.
