This film was such a fun watch. What surprised me the most was how good the pacing was. The film never really feels slow because there’s always something happening, whether it’s Axel getting himself into trouble, investigating a lead, or finding a way out of a bad situation. The story keeps moving forward at a steady pace and rarely wastes time.

I also really liked the writing. The situations are constantly on edge, which makes the audience feel on edge too. Just when it seems like Axel has things under control, another problem appears and raises the stakes again. This creates a lot of tension, but the film balances it well with humor, making it exciting without ever feeling too serious or exhausting.

Eddie Murphy is naturally charismatic and carries the film with ease, but what stood out most to me was how well the screenplay keeps the momentum going. The combination of sharp comedy, constant tension, and fast pacing makes this film feel entertaining from beginning to end

An absolute classic!

An absolute classic!

Murphy obviously fantastic, but this is so painfully derivative now (granted that’s probably because it was the first) and I just couldn’t suspend my disbelief and get behind how totally implausible the script was. S&B are the auteurs here, and while this was competently directed, the pros don’t quite outweigh the cons, unlike last night’s, which suffered from many of the same problems but at least had Fincher agonizing over it.
