I saw the trailer for this when I was nine, and it got stuck in my head as a must-see. After seeing it, I'm kind of let down.
This is a remake of a Japanese movie of the same name, similar to The Ring and The Grudge. I can tell it's trying to transfer the themes of isolation from a Japanese viewpoint to an American one, but it drags in the middle for far too long. I empathize with Connelly's character in this, but she doesn't have a lot of agency in this story. Things happen to her, and it seems that instead of making the best of a bad situation, she spirals into half-baked paranoia. The horror doesn't really get going till the halfway point, and I solved the mystery within the first twenty minutes. I expect the original is far better.
