I had high expectations for this film, with the plot description and seeing Diego Calva attached to the film, I was immediately hooked and quick to watch. However, my expectations of watching a good movie were slowly crushed and it only got worse the further into the movie I got. I can admire the intentions behind the movie and its goal to spread awareness surrounding human trafficking involving undocumented immigrants but this movie has the same energy as The Sound of Freedom. The movie presents a pro-cop agenda with the two main cops we see in the movie being painted as “one of the good ones” and the saviors of the story. The movie does not feel like it’s honoring the real life victims and survivors of human trafficking + illegal labor rather it sensationalizes the issue at hand and provides no real emotional depth or connection. Honestly the most interesting part of the movie was the chase sequence that gave us quick action sequences and thrill. After that everything just got worse. It is a miracle I even finished this movie.
