Oh my god dude
Sit me down and get me some kind of orange blanket or something it’s so relentless
It’s so good it just keeps churning out the atrocities
It’s so hard to stomach and the anthology format still keeps it manageable and even more interesting but still hopeless
And forces surveillance of an entire history of a political system over an examination of one incident or particular story
Instead a lineage of tragedies to perfectly illustrate maybe the most un-missable message of all time
It’s an excellent piece of anti war anti evil anti authoritarianism anti bad anti cruel anti oppression
And it’s painfully beautiful
Which just makes things more harrowing
Much like Demons I think
Very similar in my head and makes me want to watch Demons again soon
A couple of of these tales are just full on horror
So twisted and still beautifully handled visuals-wise
Idk how to describe the effect that the beauty has in conjunction with the deeply unsettling and unpleasant stuff actually happening on behind the veil
But it’s some type of result
Maybe a small notable weakness in the script here and there, but nothing flawed so to speeeeak
Just a weaker link in the long long chain
And tbh that has no effect on the final product for me, and I would herald this as one of the greatest films ever purely for how well it pulls of the individual stories, and how they come together as a whole
That feels really significant and I’ve never seen anything like this before and im not convinced there could be anything like it out there, let alone ever again
Just lightning in a bottle a little bit
Not overwhelmingly so
But just enough to be really exciting
Still feels achievable enough for the times and talents of decade that you don’t need to hold your breath and praise the Lord it came to fruition
But I’d still do a bit of a little of that for how good so many of the moneys here are
