Every time I've watched this movie I've tried to love it but its just so hard for me to. For a long time I had a hard time articulating why but on my most recent rewatch, right after rewatching the first, I think it clicked. While on paper everything here seems incredibly engaging and such a natural scale upwards from the first, in execution it falls pretty short for me. The main reason is the HUGE lack of that driving drama that Frank and Julia had that really propels the first movie. There's so many layers in their relationship and characters that isn't present here. I HAAAATTTTEEEE Channard he's such a nothing character and him being such a big focus with Julia just really drags both her character and the rest of the movie. I've also always thought that its weird that with a movie that aims to explore the mythology of the Labyrinth and Leviathan that the cenobites take such a huge back seat. Where the first movie used them sparingly and it worked, here it's just a little baffling. Kirsty is awesome though!
