I liked the approach of using archival footage to tell the timeline of Diana. Not just news reels, but people’s personal tapes such as a tourist in France who just so happened to pass by the Ritz before the car accident or a random guy who was filming a game night with his friends/roommates while the news was on. Having no narration was a good way to have the audience be pushed into the terrifying world of press and PR messiness that Diana was also thrust into before marrying Charles.
It also shows how much the media at the time hounded and were so desperate for anything Diana related. It got to a point where it made me sick to my stomach on how intrusive and invasive they were in her personal life from the start. I also found it interesting how in turn she used the media to her advantage at times.
In conclusion, seeing all the photographers and other people who worked for the press at the time keep taking pictures or filming people in grief at her memorial or her kids during the funeral just made me super uncomfortable and nauseous. It’s a good documentary compared to all the very similar ones that are out there.
