The plot was very entertaining and a great many things happened, everything I thought would happen didn’t and instead the opposite happened. It was fun to watch and be in utter confusion, yet also strong enjoyment. I think the characters are fairly solid despite us not having much time with them, Jerome is dependent on his wife, he most likely lived his whole life for her and died for her as well, he hopes to keep this up, but his outlet of love has found independence without him. He is broken, literally physically broken, and then fixed and reborn in a way with a new mindset and a better outlook on his own existence. He develops into a better rounded person and is on a path to self-discovery and love. The pacing was pretty good, I think it went a bit too fast and I feel Jerome’s long journey should have been a little longer in the movie, but it was ok. The whole movie didn’t make much sense so the pacing shouldn’t either. Despite the nonsense of the world, it all made sense with the context of that’s it’s not supposed to. The colors, movements of the characters, their forms, the music and imagery, everything was incredibly avant-garde and gorgeous to look at. I think the themes are a bit difficult to find, but are certainly still present. There are ideas of moving on and not relying solely on other, getting to know yourself and loving yourself as well, because you can never leave yourself while those who you attach yourself to always can. But also just the wildness of the movie itself has a message, life doesn’t go as expected and we must be able to figure out was to cope, we must adjust always, adjust to the idea of adjusting too. The animation was beautiful, the art style was simple and cute, but the movements of the characters and the use of angles was really spectacular. I didn’t feel very strongly about this film at all, it was just a fun and light-hearted watch for me. It was just a passing thought really, but a very pleasant one. This is an incredibly unique piece, its art style and story and the world it takes place in is very special to this particular movie. It doesn’t feel copied or “borrowed” from much else. There wasn’t much dialogue, the movie focused more on the scenes and images rather than the lines and conversations of characters. Most of the time, Jerome repeated the same few lines while people ignored him entirely. Overall, this movie was very fun to watch, but not super memorable. I really like it though, it’s like a gentle fever dream.
