an incredible, poetic exploration of the struggles of parenting and growing up. the cinematography was breathtaking at all times and so much care was put into photographing this neighborhood. the performances were also incredibly grounded and worked very well for me. i think at some points the surreal nods to greek mythology can feel a bit out of place and stretched out. that doesn't detract too much from the film as a whole though. i do wish the ending was a little slower and took some extra time to breath and let the emotions hit even harder. i found myself getting pretty choked up at several points throughout the film. i really hope this gets picked up by a distributor so that i can see it again, because admittedly, i don't think i picked up on everything the film had to offer. great start to this year's sundance.
