Monica, O My Darling
I didn't expect to have this much fun with Monica, O My Darling, yet when you get lost in fun, it kind of hides its flaws.

The titular vamp (Huma Qureshi) uses her pregnancy to blackmail three of her colleagues: our protagonist Jayant (Rajkumar Rao), the typical employee with a rags-to-riches story, Nishikant (Sikandar Kher), the son of the CEO, and an accountant, Arvind (Bucks). The trio decide to kill Monica with an elaborate plan, but their plan fails, and it is Nishikant who ends up getting killed. A whodunnit ensues, which is led by the eccentric cop, Naidu (Radhika Apte).

The allure of Vasant Bala's films lies in their score, their editing and their style, and he doesn't disappoint. Not only does the titular song play numerous times, but numerous classic disco songs add flavour to the film that makes it stand out. Its style just makes everything zoom past and creates a fun dynamic.

The characters are colourful, especially the cop played by Apte, who is the reason behind most of the fun moments of the film. Huma Qureshi herself plays the highly sexualized femme fatale perfectly, and Rajkumar Rao, like always, is extremely dependable to carry the film.

While the first two acts are engaging, it loses itself during the third act when more and more threads get unravelled. It becomes too much to endure and becomes a headache to keep up with so many revelations.
