An almost purely audio-visual experience, with no real exposition and a heap of cryptic things happening. In truth, the cryptic hints about Bannon's true nature are not as interesting as they could be. In fact, the best parts of this film exclusively occur when Bannon is sitting in the cold, wet darkness and trying to ignore the encroaching cosmic horrors.
It's not really incredible or anything, but I liked it. Guy's stuck in an endless night, trying to survive a biblical deluge which has spoiled all the water and brought unspeakable things into the world. He makes a helpful friend over the radio, until his friend isn't so helpful. The sound of the rain constantly going is supremely peaceful, and most of the other sounds are not so much. There's consistent tension. Honestly, I think it would have been best if they never got out of the city and just had to try and survive inside it. But, look, you've got to review the film you did watch, not the one you wanted to watch.
I did enjoy the film I watched, and I thought it was a gorgeous, brooding film.
