honestly, the beginning half or so of the movie dragged a bit, but waiting for the second half was absolutely worth it. the special effects and sets were definitely the highlights. the monsters were very well done for their time and were genuinely pretty creepy. the costumes, village setting, and colors used during the nighttime scenes were all great. anything that reminds me of my days growing up watching the 60s/70s godzilla movies makes me happy and this was no exeception :)

Very very slow pacing and a pretty mediocre start to the trilogy but all of the Yokai at the end make up for it. I’m also not too mad at it cause this came out in 1968, I can’t expect them to have over 100 Yokai onscreen for a majority of the runtime. I mean the costume designs are really impressive for the time so I’m just happy they look so great. Another thing I really love about this movie is that there are some genuinely creepy moments here which I kind of expected but it’s a lot creepier than I thought it would be and I love it. I’m excited to see what’s next, especially because Spook Warfare is supposed to be the best and it’s The Great Yokai War so i’m very excited to see it next.

This movie owes me like 60 monsters. The lady with the long neck is one of the creepiest creatures I’ve seen in awhile, but you can tell most of the movie’s budget when into that scene. The Yokai parading in slomo at the end should be on a loop at everyone’s Halloween party.
