Yokai Monsters: 100 Monsters
" Looking for a good time, dearie? "

a mix of horror , folklore , and weird comedy that somehow works the whole time.
the atmosphere is great: dark streets , old houses , smoke , and spirits appearing out of nowhere.
what I liked most is how the yokai feel strange but never random , like old legends coming to life.
the final parade scene is easily the best part.
seeing all the yokai moving together through the streets feels chaotic in the best way , almost like a supernatural celebration and punishment at the same time.
the practical effects give it a lot of charm.
and the umbrella yokai is unforgettable.
such a simple design but it ends up being one of the creepiest and funniest creatures in the movie at the same time.

When your idea is 20 minutes don’t make an hour and 20 minute long movie!

Also they said 100 but there were like maximum 15 of them.

Yokai Monsters: 100 Monsters
honestly, the beginning half or so of the movie dragged a bit, but waiting for the second half was absolutely worth it. the special effects and sets were definitely the highlights. the monsters were very well done for their time and were genuinely pretty creepy. the costumes, village setting, and colors used during the nighttime scenes were all great. anything that reminds me of my days growing up watching the 60s/70s godzilla movies makes me happy and this was no exeception :)
