This film should've clicked with me, but for whatever reason it just didn't. I usually love family dramas like this especially with Koreeda films, but for some reason, this just didn't hit the spot as those films. I think I'm too used to the Koreeda and family melodrama mold. I think that this film should've taken the Tokyo Sonata route with dealing with family drama and tragedy in terms of pacing. This film felt like it was moving wayyyy too fast. When the family tragedy happens wasn't established in the first 10-15 minutes of the film, I think that's what threw me off a lot. This character had the time to be established then just gets written off completely. It felt a bit disorienting. It felt a bit overstimulating by the amount of stuff that was getting thrown at you. Some of the stuff I couldn've gone without, mostly the whole affair stuff with the husband. This film should've been more focused on the mom and the kids biological father.
I loved the color grade and LUT that was used for this film. The sort of washed out pastel water color looked so beautiful and is definitely going to be a look that I will use later in my films.
The cinematography was pretty good too. Loved the static long dialogue shots as always and the shot composition kept me looking at the TV even though this story was a bit messy
