I was so fortunate to have watched this gorgeous film at the Harvard Film Archive on 35 mm stock. It was such an amazing experience. The film itself looked so amazing for how old it was, and the Haden the guy who runs the archive is incredibly kind as well. I'm so glad I stopped here during my stay in Boston.
Now to the film, this is a very classic and cute family Japanese film. I mean it's really what you expect from something like that. Family, quiet disfunction, cute kid. I loved Hara Sestuko in this film as she is one of the greatest Japanese actresses ever. Her performance was amazing. Given how old this film was, the pacing was S l o w 😭 my attention span couldn't really be interested in many parts of the film given how I feel like it could've been told quicker. (Maybe that's why there were so many old people in the theater) But I won't fault the film that much.
