You Shoot, I Shoot

Well, this might be better than Scorsese

I expected an edgier and harsher tone but this really was an amazing black comedy. You shoot, I shoot is a film about two people working together to deliver perfect snuff films. A pretty Taboo topic, but even though this could’ve gone in a more morbid direction the comedy was the way to go. A hired killer and a rookie director managed to make a great movie.

It’s safe to say that due to the gruesome nature of the plot this was already going to be an interesting watch, and every minute of this movie does not disappoint at all. I mean I was captivated from the intro, this was truly amazing 

I can’t fully compare it to anything i’ve seen in the past and I think that’s what’s so charming. I believe this was a good way to delve into the black-comedy sub-genre. I can’t even get started on the comedy part of this movie, this was actually so hilarious. The jokes are genuinely funny and I love how a lot of them are paired with the macabre topics in a way that’s not edgy or corny. Even the one-off jokes had me laughing to the point of tears at my tv. 

Okay yes the story is interesting, but again I really have never seen anything like this, I love the love for movies that is somehow felt in this. I mean Cheun achieving to be a great director was an amazing plot and Barts whole story is super interesting and funny to watch. Who knew that a movie about making snuff films could be this funny.

I was not bored at all while watching this film and I think that’s what’s most important 

the dynamic between Bart and Cheun is great, we got a mercenary that kills anyone for money yet has a soft spot for his family, alongside a nerdy awkward movie obsessed Martin Scorsese wannabe, and they’re amazing friends. We see that friendship develop throughout the movie, it was clear that Bart thought Cheun was annoying at one point but at the end he ended up treating him like family. I mean they met because Bart was sent to kill Cheun. 

Not only do I love the friendship’s development, but the characters development was also awesome Bart goes from a stone cold killer who was basically struggling for money, to someone who cared more about the craft than the money itself, we see this when he admires the movie poster. Cheun was a pushover loser who took jobs in pornography as a way to start his career in the film industry, to an amazing director who gets with his long time crush and is even badass at times. I also really like how serious Cheun is about directing, where he’d rather die than making mediocre work, I really respect that.

this movie is definitely a hidden gem, criminally underrated.
