it has to be said first of all that mel gibson is a complete turbo fuckwit and should probably never get any more money from hollywood again. then this is like a movie out of time a mean a true like slapstick western with turns and crazy stunts and just the most utterly ridiculous things going on at all times.
i mean if you had to do a shot for the amount of twists or double crosses in this you’d be getting your stomach pumped. there was never really a point in the movie where i had a clue what was going to happen next so that was fun but also that kind of led to the movie feeling really convoluted and having a bunch of stuff that didn’t matter.
i do enjoy the chemistry all of our characters have with one another throughout and jodie foster especially was excellent in this one. i also believe this was probably the prototype for alfred molina to play the villain in a lot of his future films because he just nails it.
its overall a pretty mundane story that relies on constant twists, turns and misdirection to keep the audience engaged. in retrospect it falls short to provide really any true value even for someone who enjoys poker like me and feels like almost a parody of the old spaghetti westerns
