In a remote monastery in 1940s Australia, a mission for Aboriginal children is run by a renegade nun, Sister Eileen. A new charge is delivered in the dead of night – a boy who appears to have special powers. When the monastery takes possession of a precious relic, a large carving of Christ on the cross, the new boy encounters Jesus for the first time and is transfixed. However, the boy’s Indigenous spiritual life does not gel with the mission’s Christianity and his mysterious power becomes a threat. Sister Eileen is faced with a choice between the traditions of her faith and the truth embodied in the boy, in this story of spiritual struggle and the cost of survival.

cate blanchett literally cannot provide a poor performance; the weakest screenplay or plot line in the world could be brought to life through the masterclass in storytelling every role she acts creates ♡ this is all the religious studies revision i’m doing for mocks bc she’ll remind me of baptism

All this kid wanted to do was collect snakes and let his dawgs out then a white woman took his soul smh.
Jk this is a very deep movie about the effects of white colonialism on a personal level. The cinematography is great but the film does suffer a bit because of how slow it is although it picked up at the end. Don’t really know what to rate it bc the first 1h20m was a drag but I really enjoyed the last half hour
On a lighter note I wasn’t aware that church burpees were a thing

What a slowwwwww burn. Kind of confused at what kind of faith-based message this movie is supposed to be telling bc at some point the kid was embracing the statue of Christ…..soooo??? I will say the score and setting were nice
