no no no why did you waste such a great premise on this. flashes of approaching brilliance the entire time, entangling self worth with the desire for love and with pursuit of excellence, especially in sport. the complicated nature of hurting people close to you because you want your maslow needs met. characters unfortunately not deep enough, take some of the time spent on slow mo shots and tell me why zendaya is only sexually attracted to competition. and make the parallels between tennis and love make sense instead of distracting your audience with sex and you would’ve had a brilliant movie. the sexual tension is vital and can stay but it should be a true motif here it felt cheap.

loved the soundtrack
loved the idea behind the story and the exploration of zendaya (she feels consistent in her character which i like)
loved that everyone is hot and ripped

didnt like any of the ways they filmed the game of tennis, ruined the intensity of the sport
didnt like the dialogue — as dylan said it sounded like it was written by a child
did not like the ending — way too open ended

it feels like the underlying story about competing really could work — im thinking something more like an R rated ping pong the animation — but for the reasons mentioned above i didnt like the execution

overly corny, right amount of horny, would not really recommend, will listen to the soundtrack

upon reflection I appreciated some things about this movie a little bit more. a) the boner slap how could I forget b) the endings a little better if you view the whole movie through the lens of zendaya homewrecking the bromance and the boys figuring it out at the end and c) as jide mentioned in his review there are some seriously electric horny scenes here where you're on the edge of your seat -- this director knows how to get people at attention, for better or worse
