Meryl Streep falling down the stairs was, for me, one of the funniest moments in cinema EVER!

This might be my favorite Robert Zemeckis movie…

He’s not taking himself seriously at all here, and he’s pushing special effects forward in quite a fun way. The special effects are all great and given the nature of the movie, it doesn’t matter at all if they look a tad dated. It’s essentially a take on the screwball comedies of the 40s with Bruce Willis playing quite a good Cary Grant-type.

Goldie Hawn goes head to head with Meryl Streep and isn’t at all overshadowed. It gave me a lot more respect for her as a performer, because it’s difficult for anyone to take on Meryl, especially in two quite similar roles. While it’s easy to look back at this as another one of Meryl’s comedies, this came after a very serious run of films for her, stretching from The Deer Hunter, through Sophie’s Choice and throughout the 80s. It’s quite refreshing to see herself loosen up.

While I kind of love this movie, Cuckoochanel wrote one of my favorite reviews on letterboxd breaking down some of the issues of this film, I encourage you to check it out!
