I thought this movie was really good then I come to Letterboxd and see everyone rated it an average of 2 stars.. u all have zero taste

You know seeing all the reviews for this I really expected the worst with Paradise Highway but who knows maybe my low expectations was too low because really it isn't as bad as people say, it's just very unfinished script wise which is where many of my problems are but ignoring that for just a second and just looking at everything on paper there's many elements to this feature debut that I enjoyed like the truck setting and world we get a glimpse into, some of the cinematography is neat, the cast here is of course stellar because any film with The Juliette Binoche is guaranted atleast something interesting which here she boldly takes on a quite unfamiliar territory portraying a working class American woman who like Binoche always does extremely well exudes a harden vulnerability and isolation that instantly make her relatable as she is alluring and its her relationship here with the little girl played by new comer absolute scene stealer Hala Finley who injects her character with a heartbreaking maturity that one can't help but root for her that makes up much of the heart of Paradise Highway even if the screenplay rush their development too fast for it to earn it but Binoche and Finley makes up for it with their endearing chemistry which makes this largely watchable enough but that's also where my praise ends. Picking it piece by piece or as a complete experience Paradise Highway's rushed pace doesn't do its choppy screenplay any favors, besides what will happen to Binoche's and Finley's characters you don't really care much about anything else beyond a superficial curiosity, the electric Morgan Freeman seemingly sleep walk his way through the entire film here and the central plot of human and child trafficking starts off intriguing enough but without any further introspection into the subject either as a theme or emotional backbone you feel kinda lost with where the film is going instead of being hung. Its suspenseful enough and the performances from both two leads are a highlight but you just wish they both could have been in a better film then Paradise Highway but at the very least its nowhere near as bad as a lot of people are trying to make it out to be but it just need so much more on its plate to work because as it is it feels more skeleton and bones then something meaty with a bite.
