one of the worst movie’s i’ve seen so far this year.
it’s so creatively bankrupt, borrowing from horror staples the shining and the amityville horror, but it fails to execute on any of the topics it borrows and just presents some of the most watered down and stupid versions of those tropes. the acting is horrible, with some of the most atrocious use of sound design, and an ineffective story that gives you no information on what it’s doing.
i understand the want to comment on the current political climate in the u.s., and it has a lot of potential. america, like any other country, is built upon it’s sins and evils just as much as it’s built upon it’s successes. touching upon the cyclical nature of time and how those evils are deeply rooted could and should work, but the director in this film is over his head and is tackling topics he doesn’t have the depth to grasp.
it’s incredibly telling that the best actor in this, the man who played cain, is uncredited, because i also wouldn’t want my name associated with this very poor directorial debut. jackie cruz tried her best with a very middling script but i genuinely could not care about of these characters less.
don’t waste your time.
