I search the internet far and wide to find the original HK releases of Jackie Chan movies. Ive got a fair few of them, but most of the 90’s movies are hard to find. Most international versions (the ones we here in the USA have seen our whole lives) are cut to shreds with 15-20 minutes missing for not reason, bad dubs and replaced soundtracks for no reason. I have made it a life goal to own all of his movies in their original form. There have been steps to release some of these movies in their original cuts in Blu Ray/4k quality by Shout Factory, Eureka and 88 Films (sucks that eureka and 88 films are region B only, extremely jokerifying for me).
The version of this movie that I watched today is the original HK cut with 23 minutes added back in, from whole scenes to half second cuts. They took the cut scenes and soundtrack from the laserdisk and put them in, so it was very noticeable when something was added back in because the quality would dip to probably around 720p. This made the viewing experience even more interesting than before because it made me realize how shitty these recuts are. Some fight scenes have a few seconds of choreography missing here and there, reaction shots are mostly gone, moments of good physical comedy totally cut, and most of all VERY important scenes that help flesh out the plot and explain what’s a totally going on! It’s so frustrating to see how much was missing all this time.
Sorry for the rant. This is a very funny and action packed Jackie movie. He plays with a lot of animals in this! The ladder fight is great but the rooftop chase stood out this time (maybe because of the added moments). If anyone wants to hook me up with a region free blu ray player, please help me out
