Director- Kohei YoshinoIt follows the protagonist as she competes with the Director who inspired her to join this trade. The movie sheds light on the unforgiving nature of the anime industry. It shows us the harsh working conditions and the expectations of the superiors who want excellence while they provide inadequate means for them to do so.The movie has a fair bit of memorable scenes. Particularly the scene at the pachinko place was awesome. The character of Namisawa Kazuna was played particularly well. Even though she is a side character, her acting was even better than the acting of the protagonist. The scenes of them story boarding and animating adds a nice touch. The movie also sheds light on workplace relationships and living conditions of those working in the industry. The movie also showcases the recording of voice actors which acts as a means of including yet another sector. The way we get insight into the protagonist and the veteran is good enough. The scene where they pitched the shows truly works to showcase the difference between a newbie and a veteran. It also served as the perfect stage for their first meeting/clash. The anchor acting as a means for us to get insight into the Veteran was perfect. The veteran is truly well written. His nature borders eccentricity but his boldness is the reason why he works as the perfect counterpart to the protagonist who lacks confidence. Her nature makes her seem like a doormat one can walk all over. The way the higher ups are showcased to have power with the use of chairs and a table is a great choice as it sets the power balance well. The invite only screenings before the show premieres acts as a great way to determine whether a show is a hit or a flop, the movie showcases it interestingly. The suspense of it is built in a befitting manner with us clutching to our seats in anticipation. The movie actually shows us a good amount of the footage of the anime whose creation we have been following from behind the scenes. It uplifted the viewing experience for me and works to showcase their efforts in providing us with entertainment. The way people are shown to be discussing the two shows with speech bubbles is damn interesting. The animation which follows it adds a nice touch while also giving the bubbles another purpose. The superior's bad choices are shown adequately, enough to bring them to light but still keeping it out of the limelight. The inclusion of a normie in the main roles adds a nice duality of point of views. The stubbornness of the veteran to have his way with the ending adds a nice conflict. On one hand he should have power over the final cut but on the other the production company has power over him.The conflict between the superior and the protagonist should have had a better closing, it wasn't adequate. Though it allows us to gain insight into the protagonist, it still pains to see her still insecure even after her success. The addition of scenes which showcase how they handle burn out and keep up with their lifestyle added more facets to their lives while also showcasing that in the end, both the teams are friendly at the end of the day. It also added depth to the acquaintance of the veteran. The way the protagonist and the main VA's relationship is handled is apt. The movie could have ended with just this. This would be a satisfying end to our journey but it keeps going on.It is still enjoyable and we still get great scenes like the last stand of the acquaintance. The outburst of the protagonist is inspiring. It was much awaited and didn't disappoint. The conversation between the superior and the protagonist was perfect. Shed some much needed light onto the superior's motives. It nearly made me emotional. The relationship between the kid and the protagonist works in favour with the movie as she sees her childhood self in him, the self which inspired her to join this sector. The decision taken by both for the finale not only levels the playing field but also allows the two to break free from the higher ups. It also works as a way to view the duality of the production companies. It works to shed light on the importance of choosing the right one.The pan near the ending was damn good. The final episode working as a compilation of all we saw about the behind the scenes of the creation works wonders. Seeing the final episodes of both the animes nearly made me cry.
The movie is a masterpiece for me. It has its flaws but it resonated with me.The movie is a tad overly long but I can't place my finger at the place which could be cut.The insecure nature of the protagonist is overdrawn. The amount of characters showcased is overbearing at times.
