In the first 15 minutes the antagonist, played by John Lithgow, goes into hysterical rage at the sight of Denzel’s perfect body
Pulpy excess, self-serious tropes taken to their violent, shadow-infested, and self-reflexive conclusions, reality becomes a formless absurdity carried only by hegemonic signposts and its own momentum… Washington is an amalgam of every good guy and Lithgow is every bad guy, each are the insufferably smiley kings of manipulation on their respective sides of society, so they must clash and it must end a certain way, but this film is surprising because it feels like an anthology of every filmic trick in the book as applied to the given setup… it’s awesome and looks so incredibly gorgeous
