Sam Raimi has such a weird and wonderful mind.
This feels like a real moment within a translational period for Raimi, crammed between The Evil Dead and the Spider-Man trilogy, containing elements familiar to both like the campy characters, cheesy one liners, cool practical effects and these very unique Sci-Fi elements.
Darkman serves as a relatively solid superhero esc crime thriller that contains PLENTY to love if this is up your street and this is definitely up mine, but I feel like it just lacks quality in certain aspects that ultimately hinders the outcome. Acting on a larger scale isn’t the best from the whole cast, even Liam Neeson, I felt like the plot is dragged slightly and it feels like it went on for so much longer than the 90 minute run time.
Like I said though, there is plenty to be loved here and there is stuff here that I myself loved. Liam Neesons character felt well developed and he was funny at times, his makeup was also amazing and it really made me think about how much I want a Two Face in The Batman Part 2. Frances McDormand gives what is easily the best performance of the film and feels levels above everyone else.
