One of the things that I appreciate the most about the original Crow is how fast that film starts. 10 minutes in and Eric fully becomes The Crow, whereas, in this film, it really does feel like the MCU-fication of The Crow, where the film takes probably more than half of its runtime just for a long backstory, so by the time we do get to Eric fully becoming The Crow, it’s way, way too late. While the opera sequence was a banger, for me it was just way too little too late, and I feel like I couldn’t even truly enjoy this part. I also think it feeds into a bigger and much more complicated conversation about how a lot of storytelling nowadays won’t let the characters be evil. There has to be some morality or an idea coursing through it, and you can clearly see it in this film especially, in the sense that Eric doesn’t even like or understand the violence. This doesn't do justice to Brandon Lee not to the original film. It's a dreadfully incompetent and unbalanced remake that drains all the taut simplicity of the original. Its pacing is way off and tiresome and the first two acts drag— even though I do get where they were going by developing the characters and their relationship— but it just didn't hit, unfortunately.
