Since they made a movie on SNL skits that started in the 70s, where was the Landshark movie?I avoided it for the longest time, even when I was very young (probably around 7). I remember my dad watching it all the time, and the poster freaked me out. "Why are their heads so long?" I would ask. I finished a 5-hour-long cleaning session, so I needed something light to watch, and this is a fairly solid, "watch after you're done cleaning your room" type movie.
It's shocking how relevant this movie is. It's very pro-immigration and a fun critique of anti-immigration services. There are certainly jokes about the Coneheads adapting to society, but most of the side characters don't mock them. Their neighbors, friends, and strangers treat them as equals, and it does a great job showing how beneficial we all are to our society. The villains are comical but intimidating, which elevates this idea.
This is far from a perfect movie. It does follow a basic formula, most of the gross-out humor doesn't work, and it did take a bit for me to get used to Aykroyd's voice (he sounds like the aliens from 'Mars Attacks' spoke English), but there were lots of things that kept me engaged. I love Dan Aykroyd because he will commit to the bit, and he, alongside Jane Curtin, was very fun to watch. There are some great sight gags, and the supporting roles are played fairly straight, which makes the situations funnier. I'm curious to check out more SNL films, even if they will 100% be bad (I kind of want to subject myself to 'It's Pat', lol).
