This movie shows that you can put stereotypically disgusting British teeth on a person and they become unrecognizable.
'Spider' is an interesting edition to David Cronenberg's vast filmography since it feels like its own separate entity. There is plenty about this movie I loved from Cronenberg's bleak direction to Ralph Fiennes' pretty excellent and awards worthy performance. This movie left enough questions open throughout the movie to feel engaging, but there are parts that made me not truly connect with this movie. While the ending does answer a few of my complaints, I did feel that there were some plot conveniences that didn't work for me and made parts of the story feel rushed. Much of it was fairly predictable, especially due to the double casting, and overall it could have gone deeper into Spider's psychology. I'm curious to read the book to see if my issues are resolved, but I still found tons to like even if I didn't fully connect with it.
